Engineering Likely Letter

I also received an engineering likely letter today, but I am a male. The email also invited me to attend the Engineering Diversity Hosting Weekend on the weekend of April 12th, all expenses paid. Very exciting :)

when are the “Normal” likely letters??

I believe the window for likely letters has already passed. It would seem silly to hand out more this close to the decision date, no?

^Yes, I believe the last day for all Ivies to send likely letters was today 3/15
though most admitted applicants don’t receive them, so there’s still hope!

Besides, “normal” likely letters (meaning strictly academic, I assume) are extremely rare. Likely letters from Cornell are generally confined to recruited athletes, DHW invitations, and female engineers. Or so I am led to believe.

Also got one. And also a female engineer.
Anyone know how likely it actually is that we’ll be accepted?

Congrats! It would be sooo mean if they sent out these emails and then we got rejected. I would say 99.99% chance. Just don’t get expelled or arrested

congrats to all
I guess being a female does have its advantages :frowning: ( in this regard :stuck_out_tongue: )

i got the female engineering one as well!
from what i heard some guys got an email also, just without the SWE whatnot of course.

Accepted to UCLA’s school of engineering on Saturday, waitlisted at MIT, and just got Cornell’s likely email for female engineers! Yay for being a nerd :)

So excited I already filled out the registration form to visit overnight in mid-April! Also attached was a document about scholarship for female engineers
MIT can suck it! Congrats to the rest of the people with emails :D

Most people around here think that it’s about 100% likely that you’ll be admitted. (still, I wouldn’t decline any other schools until you have the official notification).

The Ivy League has a common RD admission date (I think it’s 3/30 @ 5:00pm this year) and can’t formally admit anyone prior to that date, but they do issue a limited number of ‘likely letters’ to candidates that they’re targeting. From what I read on this board, it appears that female engineering students is one of Cornell’s categories.

Congrats!!!

Nah, I just remember seeing previous threads in past years and seeing what I THINK had “normal” likely letters as well, opposed to just diversity/female engineer ones. Not expecting one though, just curious ;)

Any kind of likely letter at all is something to be proud of :). Cornell is a fantastic school, and to be sought after by them is a tremendous honor.

There should still be more likely letters coming, I remember getting one around this time for a scholarship.

I still haven’t gotten a letter
guess I won’t be accepted :(.

The vast majority of acceptees (including women engineers and minorities) do not get “likely letters”. Don’t read anything at all into the fact that you may not have received one.

Anyone know the percentage of applicants receiving ll’s?

Sent from my DROIDX using CC App

Cornell does seem to let some of the women engineering applicants know early so that they can make arrangements for the SWE event, which is in April when everyone is having accepted student weekends.

I hope you are right, zephyr15. I am actually a minority so not receiving one is even worst :(.

I wonder how they decide who to send likely letters too. It would be interesting to find out.
