Engineering programs at Virginia Tech

Hi I am a newbie. I wanted to know how the engineering program works. Do you have to declare a major in engineering when entering. How does the school compare from UVA and U of Maryland? I am thinking of taking a road trip from NewjJersey. What order should I see them in as far as driving. Thinking weekof April 1st

Thanks for your help

With VA Tech every freshman applicant applies to General Engineering. On traveling, I’d go to VA Tech first then UVA and then U of MD. That way you are heading towards home the entire trip and no backtracking.

See link above. Basically, you are admitted to GE. After required courses complete, submit application to desired engineering major. GPA determines automatic acceptance in to major of choice.

  1. VT
  2. UMD
  3. UVA

Opinion of a very biased VT parent.
