Hello there,

I'm currently an Industrial Engineering junior who has applied for transfer to Michigan engineering for the spring semester ( Jan - April ). Since I do not have one requisite course for the IOE department, the transfer admission committee has told me that I can enroll in basically any engineering major other than IE! Now, since I really do want to stick to IOE, they recommended that I could enter as a "interdisciplinary engineering" major which would allow me to take IE courses and then transfer into IOE after doing one semester as an Interdisciplinary engineer. I had the following questions and would appreciate it if anyone could answer:

1) Would the interdiscplinary engineering degree allow me to take the IE courses that I need to take so that I dont waste a semester or is it also pretty structured in its own right?

2) I do not want to graduate with a interdisciplinary engineering degree and would definitely like to switch into IOE after spring semester. How hard is it to do an internal transfer into IOE? Is it competitive or is it as easy as just getting the paperwork done?Is there something I'm missing here?

3) My reasons for moving are a) Social life b) Michigan is a target school for consulting/wall street which is what I want to get into and my currnet school is not... The reasons that hold me back to my current school of Northeastern University are a) Current school is $10 cheaper per annum due to scholarship b) Has a great co-op program .. Hence, I'm not sure what to do. Is there a high risk of me moving to Michigan and not being able to switch back into IOE?

4) While a lot of employers seem to knock on Michigans door and Michigan seems to have quite a few career fairs for internships and full-time positions, is there a lot of competition within Michigan students itself for these jobs so intense that it makes the multitude of fairs a moot point? I guess what I'm trying to compare is if its better to have a High GPA at a mid-level school or a Lower GPA at a prestigious school like Michigan..

Any advice would be helpful.. Really not sure what to do.

Thanks
