For those that have had any luck getting a little bit of scholarship money....
My son is an auto admit (top 1%), but was going to re-take the SAT to try to get a better score to possibly be more competitive for scholarships. The Oct. date falls on the day of a band competition which he won't be allowed to miss. Is the November date too late to re-take the SAT? Would it even matter?

bump…anyone have any input? Do SAT scores affect chances for scholarship in UT engineering?

One more question on this topic…does taking the SAT subject test (Chemistry) improve your chances of getting Chem Eng as your major? Would it matter if you couldn’t take it until Nov?

How high is his score now? I don’t think scholarships are done so early that a November retake would be too late. My non engineer got some $ but didn’t hear about it until the spring. The process is fuzzy in my mind, but seems like he got 1) the admitted letter for an auto admit, 2) the college letter, 3) the honors letter, and then 4) the scholarship letter. Number one came right away, but number four came pretty late.

I do think SATs matter.

Without looking it up, I think he’s around 2160. Very good, but would probably score a little higher second try. I would be thrilled with even a little scholarship $$.

If he can retake without screwing up the rest of his life (like band), go for it.

I would put most of my time and effort into the essays fwiw.

Just anecdotally, I have known kids with your son’s stats and profile who did get $ from engineering.

Thanks! That is good to know. His ACT was 33 and he is top 1% of a large, competitive HS, so there is hope I guess!
