If I get rejected from engineering school, can I still apply to say, LSA? Can I dual apply?

Is it harder to get into engineering than LSA? Do I need SAT II's?

Thanks.

1) No, you can only apply to one then transfer to the other if needed. You can’t apply to LSA if rejected by Engin
2) Engineering school looks for different things like a good Math SAT score, AP Calc & Physics. SAT IIs are not required.

Engineering can be harder (usaually is), but that may depend on the distribution of you test scores, the classes you took, and your grades in those classes. If you’re an A student in all AP science and math classes, and got a B in a regular English class, it’s probably easier to get into Engineering.

If you applied early to Engineering, and were rejected, you would have time (until Feb 1st) to apply to LSA. If you were deffered you could leave your application at Engineering, or you could switch it to LSA. You can’t apply to both at the same time though.

You don’t need SAT IIs. They don’t even care about them, unless you’re homeschooled (then you need them).

Ah ok. So if you’re really, really good at math and science, got (high math and science ACT scores, all advanced/AP classes), and you’re so-so at English, it could be eaiser to get into Engineering than LSA?

^Well, that actually comes from a previous Beercats post…

Lol wow, your old post answers my question fine…sorry about that, I wasn’t paying attention!

Guys, I’m really worried. My math and science are really good…I got a 34/33 on the ACT math the science respectively, and I’ve been taking the most advanced classes possible (I go to an advanced math and science center for half the day everyday for my math and science classes). I’m just worried my bad writing will keep me out.
I got a 29 on the english, and an 8 on the writing T_T. I know my essays aren’t that good but they adequately answer the prompt, and will be free from errors. I have been taking all honors/AP english classes though, and have gotten an A- in all of em (which lucky is still a 4.0 for UM gpa =D) Do you think my bad writing will keep me out of Engineering, or should I be fine since I excel in math and science?

No, you’ll be fine. An 8 is plenty good enough for Engineering (infact, I would bet that’s probably about average for Engineering).

Ah ok thanks, that makes me feel a lot better!
