engineering student here.

Not trying to break any rules by reviving a dead thread, but I’m still around to answer questions and would rather bump this than create a new topic. Please let me know if I’m in the wrong.

thanks so much for all your help this past year koto :):)
i’m really enjoying it here (well except for my calc and chem classes, for which i’ve been going to several office hour sessions) but other than that i love it.

That’s awesome; I’m glad I was able to help. And yes, office hours are an amazing resource if your professor is helpful.

i heard that the engineering grades get curved (like your final grade in a class will be curved). is this true, because i’m finding it very difficult to maintain at least an A-range gpa.

It depends on the professor of the course. A lot of professors do curve their classes, but several do not. Often, they will say something about it during the first lecture or in the syllabus or on his/her website.

What do you mean by A-range? If you are going by high school standards, try to let them go. It isn’t only that 93-100 is an A anymore; the range is wider than that most times.

thanks koto :)

sorry to keep bothering you :stuck_out_tongue: i have a registration-related question now.
there’s a class called statics (or mechanics?)-- 14:440:221-- is this required? i keep hearing that it’s an elective but i just wanted to make sure.

It’s not problem; that’s what I’m here for!

It is called Engineering Mechanics: Statics and it is required for all engineering disciplines. It would be easier to take this after taking Physics 1 or at least with a solid understanding of mechanics (just forces and moments, mostly). Some students take it freshman year and others take it sophomore year, depending on scheduling.

hey kota
I am an instate high school junior. I am very worried that I wouldn’t be able to get into Rutgers  specifically their engineering program. I have this dilemma and I was wondering if you know the answer. I entered 3 honors in freshmen year and got 2 Cs and a B- in the courses. So I had to drop down to regular besides one honors class. I then got a C+ in Regular Chemistry and Bs in all the other courses. Now I have 1 AP course (AP Computer Science, currently a B+) and all regular classes. I was wondering if I will be able to get into Rutgers.
Freshmen GPA: 3.00
Sophomore GPA: 3.12
Junior: I’m expecting around a 3.3.
Senior: I plan on taking 3 APs senior year so will Rutgers look highly upon it?

I’m didn’t take the SATs yet. But I am predicting around a 1800 or so. I’m just REALLY worried about getting into their engineering school. Do I really have a chance at all? Should I apply early for rolling admissions?

I have several ECs, but I don’t know if Rutgers will value them or not:
Athletic Trainer Intern
200+ Volunteer Hours at hospital, old age home, etc
Executive Board in FBLA, Student Council, Pre-Med Club
State Director for Future Civics Leader

I’m sorry; I don’t chance people. I just answer questions I know the answers to.

It can’t hurt to apply; even if it is a reach (which I am absolutely not sure about) everyone has reach schools.
