I visited Rutgers: New Brunswick over the summer and it was fairly good. But that was when all the buildings were empty. So...

What are the freshman dorms like? Are there any significantly better freshman dorms? Is there AC? Is it noisy? Tell me about transportation and the bus system.

The dorms really aren’t that bad. If you visit the Housing website, the information presented there is spot on and is not misrepresented at all. There is A/C. Mine’s on right now on HI and you hear it but it’s a constant noise (not too loud) so you get used to it very quickly.

Transportation and bus system allows you to go anywhere on campus. I have a car and only use it when going off campus since the buses allow you to get anywhere you would need to go.

Hope that helped, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I have been in one of the BAMM dorms very recently and I think they smell moldy. Also, the AC does not work well and leaks all over the floor, furthering the moldy smell. Everyone loves the BAMM dorms but I’m not sure why.

Well I’m in the BAMM dorms right now and I can tell you it doesn’t smell moldy throughout the building, perhaps in a spot or two but there’s also a lot of construction work going on nearby the dorms and I have seen them working over by the giant air conditioning plants (whatever they’re called) so my guess is that the leaks are being taken care of.

In terms of the AC, I have no leaks whatsoever in my room and while I have the knob turned down to its lowest (55 degrees) and the fan blowing on high, my room is currently about 70 degrees. So while it isn’t the best A/C in the world, it sure beats out having no A/C at all.

I live in BAMM right now and air conditioning is pretty awesome. I’ve been in the quads and towers in Livingston and it’s pretty hot. BAMM is definitely spacious that some of the dorms in Livingston. And I think some of the dorms in Douglass/Cook campus have asbestos but it’s still safe to live in.

Freshman housing is not plush but definitely not horrible. Best advice is get housing deposit in early so you get your first choice. And know what you want when you pick your campus order. Different campus choices are right for different people. They all have pros and cons.

BAMM room sizes are HUGE. the carpets are a little old but a vacuum cleaner can solve that problem.
plus, having a less luxurious dorm room will encourage you to go out in the lounge or other rooms and socialize :)

I live in BAMM, the rooms are huge. A/C on busch campus is for BAMM(Barr Hall, Allen, Mattia, Metzger hall). Transportation is really convenient but there are times that the bus gets really crowded. Friday nights and weekends are the worst for buses especially from college ave to busch/livingston. Living in dorms in Rutgers is amazing, the first week is fun and you get to meet basically your whole hall and have fun. Weekends are how you make them whether you party, chill or study.
