Does the elementary Spanish sequence fulfill the "one year of a language other than English" or does the intermediate sequence fulfill this for an English major?

Depends on where you go now and where you will be going. At UCLA, an English major must take up to level 5 in a foreign language. For me, this meant up to Spanish 102 at my CC (semester system so it counted up to UCLA’s Spanish 3 equivalent) and two additional Spanish classes when I transfer (spanish 4 and spanish 5).

Here at SMC, Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 fulfill one year.

@annikabirnbaum here is some more info on me:

I am taking the elementary sequence (C101, C102), so I should be good for option 2 right??

It sounds like it. Of course, you can always verify with a counselor or admissions. Since we’re on a semester system, then anything that takes two semesters is obviously equivalent to one year, so you’re probably good.

I think that I should be good then, but I will contact my counselor just to make sure.

Thanks @annikabirnbaum
