I initially looked into the school because I was interested in physics, and it has a wonderful physical sciences program. Once I visited and researched, I fell in love with the campus and atmosphere. But now I am considering doing an english major, and I'm really not sure about the strength of the english program at UCSB, just because you never really hear much about it.

Any opinions?

From what I've heard, its really quite strong, although if you're considering an English major, look into the College of Creative Studies's Literature major. I'm applying for that. :]

Oh, nice. But, CCS sounds so scary and serious for me. I think I'd rather be in CLS because I want to keep my options open in case I want to switch majors.

Where does UCSB rank on your college list?

Well, I'm loving the whole idea of a "graduate school for undergraduates." From what I hear though, it doesn't matter which college you're in; you can take classes in what ever college you want regardless of your major. It does take a lot of extra effort to apply though since there's a separate application for admission but hopefully it'll be worth it.

UCSB I will consider as a safety at the moment, so its not at the top, but CCS is a nice redeeming factor. I also love the campus and how it's right next to the beach. We'll see how other schools treat me in terms of admissions first.

How about you? Wheres UCSB on your list? Where else are you applying? Let's liven up the UCSB forum yeahhhhh.

What exactly is the difference between English in CLS and Literature in CCS?
