Reading the department's web page I see that declared English majors get put on a waiting list (at the end of sophomore year, I presume) and are accepted into the program as others graduate. Does anyone have experience with this? When it is likely that the student would get off the wait list? Can one realistically get into a class without major status?

I learned the answer to my own post today at the accepted students day. The professor running the English Dept. info session stated that the students who are organized and declare their major promptly upon earning 75 credits make it into the major without being waitlisted. Those who decide later in their junior year are the ones who end up waiting. He also said that staff works to get students into classes they need to progress toward graduation, even if they haven’t yet made it into the major. This is the most popular major at Western.
