English, women's studies, and biology (FSU vs. UF)

I am a high school student planning (tentatively) on one day attending law school, hence the interest in English and women’s studies (my two passions, which I also believe would be good pre-law studies - yea/nay?). I also plan to keep open the option for medical school while I’m chaotically figuring out my future, hence the interest in biology (which I find fascinating enough as it is).

As a Florida resident, I want to attend either FSU or UF. Essentially I’d like a compare/contrast of the two schools’ English, women’s studies, and biology programs.

Also, a brief evaluation of their overall campus setting, social scene, and academic environment would be helpful. Basically, which campus is prettier (yes really), and what kind of people go to which of these schools?

Thanks!

An UF vs FSU thread, oh my! :)

First, both schools will prepare you for Law/Med school.

The same “group” of students go to both Universities. They come from the same high schools, and have about the same grades. Very similar demographics. While UF is more selective, FSU isn’t far behind.

Both schools have about the same number of undergrads (32K), while UF has far more grad students (and does far more research). UF has a bit more focus on STEM (26% of degrees are award to STEM majors vs 12% at FSU). FSU awards more degrees in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Business.

I would lean more toward FSU for English and UF for Biology, but both schools have strong programs. Both schools have decent Women Study Programs. Go to each schools website and check out the classes and majors available.

Plan on touring each school (you can determine which one is prettier!). You may want to take advantage of any outreach programs:

We learned far more about UF from the “all day” Student Recruitment Conference than we did from the standard tour.

I also recommend you check out the career planning/resources available at both schools (you can do this when you tour the schools).

Finally, check out the graduation surveys.

Good Luck!
