This proficiency can be demonstrated by: submitting a score of 680 or better on the SAT-II Writing Exam, an achievement test of the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB). (Note: Do not confuse this test with the verbal portion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test [SAT]; or submitting a score of 3, 4, or 5 on the CEEB Advanced Placement Test in English, or, submitting proof of completion of a transfer-level college course of four quarter-units or three semester-units in English composition with a grade of C or better, or submitting a score of 6 or above on an International Baccalaureate Standard Level English A exam, or writing a passing essay on the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (which is required of all students who have not otherwise met the requirement). This examination may be taken only once.

University of California faculty committee has established the minimum SAT and ACT scores necessary for students to satisfy UCs Entry Level Writing Requirement. Effective with fall 2006 admitted freshmen, students who earn a score of 30 or higher on the ACT Combined English/Writing test or a score of at least 680 on the SAT Reasoning Test Writing section will satisfy the requirement.

Other options for demonstrating proficiency in writing remain unchanged. Students may still satisfy the writing requirement in any of the following ways:

Scoring 3 or higher on the College Board Advanced Placement Examination in English (Language or Literature);
Scoring 5 or higher on the International Baccalaureate Higher Level Examination in English (Language A only);
Completing with a grade of C or better an acceptable college course in English composition worth four quarter or three semester units;
Earning a passing score on the UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination, which is given in the spring every year. This year's exam will be offered on May 13. Students who are admitted to the University will receive detailed information about the test.
Completing with a grade of C or better an appropriate English course at the University.

Do we have to like submit out SAT I score somewhere special to make sure whoever is handling the writing requirement knows about it? Or can we just assume that if we made a 680 or above we are all set?

The UC system has all of your test scores. You had to submit them via College Board to every school you applied to. I am assuming that students who don't manage to pass through one of these tests are then required to take a basic English class their freshman year?
