Currently, I’m working on next year’s schedule (I’ll be a senior), and I’ve come across a bit of a scheduling dilemma. I am planning to major in computer science.
I have seven periods in my school day.
Here are the classes I MUST take(school forces me into them):
-AP English Lit
-AP Economics
-AP Calculus BC
Here are my “optional” classes(although most of these I pretty much have to take for college):
-AP Physics C(2 periods)
-Advanced Topics in Computer Science(class progression goes AP Comp Sci(soph. year), Data Struc.(junior), adv. topics(senior))
And here’s my problem.
I want to take AP Environmental Science, but given my current schedule and major it will definitely look like a “filler” or “blow off” class to colleges. This isn’t the reason I wan’t to take it; I genuinely would like to learn about the environment.
However, I do have these alternatives(which I’m not really as interested in, but still would be fine taking)
AP Gov(both of them; hmm)
AP Euro(eh)
AP Art History(ew)
Or, I could just take another elective. What would you suggest?
P.S. Don’t tell me to take a foreign language; I have that set up outside of school.
Thanks in advance!
Take AP Environmental Science. If you are truly interested, it shouldn’t pose as a problem.
^ you can always explain it in the additional comments section of apps; also, if you’re interested in it, that’s good! it’s awesome to have a wide variety of interests and to explore them
Take AP Environmental science. It will help your courseload look balanced, and it will be a class that you enjoy. You’re already taking many classes pertaining to your major (which I assume you are interested and enjoy pursuing), so taking AP Environmental will allow you to explore the sciences a little bit more, and be a class you are curious about. When you’re in a senior year (like I am) you’ll be glad you have a class you like; it’s something to look forward to in your day, and you’ll want to learn more for the sake of learning it, and not just because a grade is attached. If you’re really worried, just express your interest in taking AP Environmental somewhere in your college apps, because you are interested in the world at large. I don’t think you want to take 2 AP govt classes, and taking an elective instead of the other AP class options may look more like a “blow off” class than if you were to take AP Environmental. Good Luck! Hope I helped!
