GPrep is better !

Bump, Actually I’m facing the same situation, any advice? april.10th is coming. the original deadline of GPrep was April.1. But the dean said I may hold until April.10th. Would anybody tell me what’s your choice and your reason?

A nervous student from China (Maybe my grammer was bad :P)

I think that Georgetown Prep has the better academic reputation. I’ve seen many lists that include it among the top boarding schools in the country. It is a strongly Catholic school, so religion plays an active role on the campus (which is beautiful)! It has a small boarding population (perhaps 20%), so I’d assume that the day students run things, and boarders might feel a little isolated.

Episcopal is all boarding, so that is not a problem. It also has a beautiful campus, but it’s strongly identified as a Southern school. That even holds true for its college matriculation, which focuses heavily on Southern colleges and universities.

Both schools participate in local sports leagues, which are primarily populated by day schools in the Washington DC area. I went to an all girls high-school in DC, and also remember lots of dances with both Prep and Episcopal. I remember that the boys from Episcopal seemed a little more aloof, but then again, that could be ancient history, since I graduated from high school 25 years ago! Best of luck with your decisions!

I applied to GP and got in but decided not to go because I heard that the academics aren’t really that great, and athletes get away with anything. I know one story of a kid receiving an answer key from his teacher so he could pass the test and play in that night’s game.

So yeah, I think the school is definitely corrupt. Then again, I know some non athletes that are brilliant, but still wouldn’t be the top kid in my public school.

xAxBxC, you do a great disservice to GP with your commentary. It is entirely untrue. In fact, I highly doubt that you were ever accepted there. You sound more like a disgruntled applicant who didn’t get in. If this were true, why would you waste your time applying and then determining that the school is “corrupt” only when it was decision time? Any serious student, like most on these boards, would do their homework before applying.

The fact is, Georgetown Prep is a school of high integrity. The Jesuit program there drives this. It is also highly selective and difficult to gain acceptance. The acceptance rates rival those of some of the most selective schools on this board. Being a DC area school, and outside the geographical mainstream of most of the schools covered on this board, it doesn’t get much coverage. But GP absolutely holds its own with the finest schools covered on this board.

The academics are superb and demanding. And yes, it has an outstanding athletics program. The lacrosse program is top 10 nationally virtually every year. The balance of academics, athletics, and focus on raising God-respecting gentlement (Jesuit program) is unsurpassed. OP, you are led astray if you take the PPs comments to heart.

Saswisher, are you the Shanghai guy who got a good score on SSAT?(I met someone online and she talked about you I guess…)

Smilence—you’re Chinese too right?

3ballday,

I’d be happy to forward you my acceptance letter of you do not believe me. And current students shared that inside knowledge about the athletes with me… so shame on you for speaking too quickly.

Good Day

xAxBxC,

Do it.

I’ve got two nephews and many friends there. We’ll find out the truth.

Georgetown preparatory is a feeder to georgetown university. FYI I have heard Georgetown prep is very “catholic” if you know what i mean.

3balldad, I’m sorry but I have to side with xAxBxC here, I love GPrep, I really do. It’s one of my favorite schools in the DC metro area but GPrep is known for recruiting athletes and giving them and wealthy people easier admission. I also happen to know quite a few kids who go there and a few who got accepted there. I do however believe that GPreps academics are awsome but the reason that they don’t have a high HYP matriculation rate is because of Georgetown and that they generally go on to Atheletic Powerhouse College such as Duke instead of HYP. So please don’t fight over GPrep because yes it’s an awsome school but there is a bit of favoritism for the athletes.

Thank you!

Does anybody know anything about Episcopal?

I don’t think that it’s that great but idk I’m not sure…

it has a sick soccer team ranked in the espn top 10 last year or the year before

other than that i know nothing

Yeah Episcopal are 43rd this year…

Episcopal is better than GPrep. I looked at both, but in the end I only applied to Episcopal. Good Luck and go Maroon!

I disagree GPrep all the way son ! Their ranked 9th in Lacrosse nationwide and they have a sick location. Go Lil’ Hoyas !;)

Are you a boarder at Georgetown? If so Episcopal’s boarding life is much better.
