Yeah, so it was quite a shock when I saw the D. It's not scholarship or anything, just citizenship grades. But all the same, it looks horrible. I have this really strict teacher, and I've been tardy about 5 times (not real tardies, just like 10 seconds late, and he still marked me down!) On top of that, 2 of the tardies was when I was on crutches (yeah, I know ridiculous, but he cuts people absolutely no slack).

Other than that, I always turn in my HW, don't talk back, am quiet, etc. What should I do? I am pretty sure he doesn't give extra credit. How much does citizenship grades even count in admissions? Very angry about this though, should I have my mom write an email or something? What can I do?

Where are you in school? Are you saying that this is not a course grade, but something more like a behavior evaluation? How does this appear on the transcript? What grade are you in?

I’m in CA, and am a sophomore. It’s like a behavioral grade (tardies, whether you’re respectful and on task, if you have materials, etc.) My scholarship grade is an A (this is tests, projects, etc that sort of stuff). And yeah, unfortunately it does appear on transcipts

^I have six weeks left. But I got a B my first progress report, and now its a D. So I was thinking even if I got an A this period it would average out to a C, which still looks pretty bad. I wouldn’t mind if I had a B, though, at the end.

I’m just angry because I feel like it’s totally unnecesary. None of my other teachers ever mark you late as long as it’s under a minute after the bell rings (which in my case, it always is). And D’s and F’s in citizenship are usually reserved for people who never do their HW or have severe disciplanary problems. I really don’t think I deserve a D for being tardy 5 times. I was literally a few feet from the door. And 2-3 of those were when I was crippled.

Sorry for the rant…do you guys think I should just go up to the teacher (who is a bit intimidating) and tell him I think the grade was unfair? Or should I grovel and beg for an extra credit assignment? Use flattery? Bribery? Just kidding. But I really must purge that D from my report card.

Maybe just ask the teacher to explain why you got a D? If the teacher is actually comfortable telling you that he marked you down because you were on CRUTCHES, he’s messed up and you prolly have no chance of fixing the grade. Otherwise, maybe you’ve got a shot! And be super nice for citizenship points, lololol.

it doesn’t go into my GPA, but there’s a whole column dedicated to citzenship grades on the transcript.
Humph. I guess there’s nothing I can really do about it. I think I will just ask him after class next time and “remind” him that I was on crutches. Hopefully he’ll remove some of the tardies…I dunno.
I’m just glad none of you have ever heard about a citizenship grade, so it must not matter that much. All the same, a D is, well, basically failing. I guess I’m a pretty terrible citizen.
