hi. i'm rather far behind with this whole college application shindig, and what's bogging me down is obviously the essay.
i feel like i've written 8. that's not entirely true, but i have written 3 entirely, and intros for many more. anyways.
i really hate everything i write- it's kind of my fatal flaw, hating what i write- and so one of the options is an essay i wrote about my frustration with writing. it's not completely polished, but it's my favorite of all the essays i've written. it seems really genuine to me, and it sounds like me, and i think that's good. it's focused around a journal that i filled up from cover to cover without ripping any pages out, and which i see as a major accomplishment. however, i'm nervous about submitting an essay that is grounded in a weakness, and how i try to overcome it.
my other essays are about praiseworthy things, but i just don't like them, and they sound awkward because i'm really not a bragger and it seems like i'm forcing myself to be.
is it okay to write about a vulnerable subject?

It’s absolutely ok. On the bright side, at least u’v got a bunch of essays to back u up. I hope this may ease your anxiety: I haven’t even started on mine yet. The psychological panic is an inevitable side effect of this college application process-our (seem-to-be) entire future depends on this few numbers and essays. I’m freaking out too >…<
Anyway, back to the topic of the essay’s subject, i have read very wonderful essays on random things, like “5 reasons i like Spanish” and “i do my thinking in the bathroom.” It is not the subject of your essay that matters. It is about HOW you write it, HOW you communicate yourself through it. If this panic that you have written about shows a lot about you-how well you cope with stress, for instance- and you like it, then go for it. In fact, random topics may even give you a plus for originality and in turn impress the adcom. Remember: it’s your VOICE in the essay that matters.
Wish you the best of lucks (wish me back too^^).
Btw, what schools are you applying to?
