Essay Ideas - suggestions? comments?

I'm beginning to write on a certain prompt, but I don't know if this qualifies as an adequate topic.

Prompt: Stanford students are widely known to possess a sense of intellectual vitality. Tell us about an idea or an experience you have had that you find intellectually engaging.

Idea: Live in China for a year. I've never been to China so I think this would be an enlightening experience. I'm especially immersed in the culture (events, media, traditions, etc.)

I'm not as interested in this as I am in biochemistry, but I am planning to minor in Chinese (and possibly another language). Thoughts?

[EDIT]
I could talk about wanting to do research for stem cells, but it's a bit controversial.

anyone have an opinion?

even i'm applying to stanford and i find this topic challenging!! i thought of writing on stem cell research too cos i wanna do molecular biology but u never no who is gonna read it!! d person mite be against while we have written for it!

abt the china topic- does the idea of visiting china challenge ur brain cells? dus any thing abt it make u think? u have to decide!

urghhh..nw il have 2 get bak to my essay!!

I think writing about China would be good, as long as you connect it to how it would effect your personal growth(intellectually).
