Hey guys wanted to get everyones thoughts about what they are thinking about writing for the essay about a fictional piece of literature which taught them about the world’s complexities. I’m really unsure about my choices.
My first option is The Great Gatsby and I was going to relate it to my town (which is somewhat wealthy) and how even people who look successful, can on the inside be really broken.
My second option would be one of the stories we read in middle school and talk about my change in views as I became a more mature teenager.
Thoughts?
I would think the second one might be better, as it tells more about you, which I guess is what the general essay should be about, let the AOs to know you better through your essays. However, if you could convey aspects of you through the first idea, then it should work too.
Good luck.
If you can talk about your you impacted your town for the better in option 1, go for it. If not, go with the second. I actually talked about how my views on Cannery Row changed as I grew older.
Thar’s interesting. The first one I was going to talk about my transition when I moved here (coming from a more blue-collared town where I had spent my younger childhood) and becoming more understanding of how the world isn’t so black and white.
I was also considering The Namesake and talking about the pressure of growing up with expectations from your parents/community which may be in conflict with your own self-happiness, causing you to become an “identity agnostic” (a phrase my English teacher frequently described Gogol as).
