Essay Scoring

I read on the College Board website that you get a score from 1-6 on the essay portion of the ACT, but people on here are saying they got 11's and 12's. How does that work?

College Board does not administer the ACT. They administer the SAT. ACT and SAT are two completely different tests used for admissions.

Essay scoring:
You write your essay for the SAT/ACT. It gets sent to College Board/ACT and is review by two people. Each person gives it a 1-6 rating, and they add their scores up.

For example:
Your essay was scored a 5 by one person and a 4 by another. That makes your essay a 10 overall.

If the two scorers' differences are >2 (i think), a third one will grade the essay.

tubaman, wouldnt a 5 and a 4 make a total score of a 9?

just wondering...

lol. I can't do math.

I was thinking of something else.

But yeah, it makes 9.

I just remembered, I actually saw it on the ACT site, not that it makes a difference.

Thanks tubaman.
