@circlemidnight: The Princeton Review’s percentiles are pretty accurate. I compared my SSAT score to their chart and it’s almost the same.

Also, when I told some schools I were I was applying, they seemed turned off by it. It was as if they thought I wouldn’t attend their school if I got accepted.

That’s interesting. At one school, one of my interviewers actually told me that the other schools I’m applying to shows that I’m looking for a school with great facilities. But when I told one interviewer that I was also applying to their rival school, their exact words were “Ugh.”

Oh good about the SSATs! I was kinda worried. The Princeton Review seems to be pretty good and accurate. I hope it is.

I meant try to convey why you want to go to that[each] school specifically. With 10 schools it seems like you just want to go to A school not THEIR school, and with as many applicants as they have it seems like they can spare the one that isn’t really interested in their school specifically.

Hmm that’s true, Rad-in-Plaid96. You seem to have a point about applying to a bazillion schools.

Let’s move on to the next paragraph. In my defense, I didn’t go up to the interviewer and say, “Hey, I’m applying to your rival school! Tehehehe!” I tried to slip it in! Besides, when I told the interviewer at the rival school that I was applying to that school where interviwer went “Ugh”, they were cool with it! (I also tried to slip it in for that one too.)

How do you show that you’re into the school through the essay? I went through the essay question and they’re all like boring stuff thats not really related to the school itself.

The only school where I can see a possibility of letting the school know how much you want to go there through the essays was Groton’s. One of their prompts was “What do you like about Groton?” Aside from that, adding things in about how much you want to go to Academy X might just seem like sucking up/not answering the question.

^Emma Willard had a prompt like that. You could also use “how do you think you’d benefit from a bs education,” “what are you passionate about,” or “what is a topic you feel strongly about?”

Speaking of essays… when are you guys doing the majority of yours if you haven’t already started?

@Rad-inPlai96,
I just finished my SPS essay. I’m going to do 2 short ones this week, and then try to do an average of 2 per week and 3 per week for the 2 weeks I get off at Xmas (Yes I do get 2 weeks off) and then do one final revising/editing week during the first week in January. This while trying to make a musical CD. Ahh isn’t the application process fun?

I will do a few over thanksgiving break. This wednesday until saturday. Then I’ll just try to get some done on the weekends. Hopefully I’ll have everything done before Christmas? I don’t want to work on application stuff in January like I did last year. Not fun.

I just realized it is November 22nd!!! We don’t even have 2 months left!!!

No offense, but it seems like you guys are really procrastinating! I’ve already finished all of mine except for one, and I’m planning on being done with everything (including editing) by the end of Thanksgiving Break. Lol, I don’t want to spend winter break doing essays :p.

I am so behind! I’m planning on giving recommendations out tomorrow and I barely started my short answers. At least I’m not applying to many schools. Not too many essays to write…

Do you guys have any tips on handing out recommendations? I’m probably the only one in my grade that’s handing them out.

^ NO pandapandaa, you’re not behind! Lol, I just realized how cocky I mush have sounded before… that’s not what I meant! I swear! If you’re not applying to many schools, there is no need to start essays way ahead of time. Personally, I’m applying to 10 schools AND I’m a terrible writer :P, so I need lots of time.

About recommendations, I just handed them out this week. I’d recommend heading to school a bit early and explaining the situation. Trust me, they’ve done recommendations before. They know what to do. You can just say something like,

“Hey Mr./Mrs. So and Such, I am applying to some private schools for next year. I was just wondering if you would be able to write me a recommendation. I would REALLY appreciate it. HAND RECOMMENDATIONS Thanks you so much! You have been a great help!”

And thats all. But if you’re more comfortable not talking to them in person, you can always hit them up with an email. it’s much less awkward and is very effective.

Wow, I’m actually pretty mad now. The SPS essay is 3,000 characters, but they mean counting spaces. So now I have to condense the ONE essay I had done. And I can’t do it tomorrow b/c of an EC commitment. ARGHHH

I’m pretty behind. Only decided that I was even going to apply to boarding school in late October, so… yeah.

Completed essays and candidate profile for Andover. Essays weren’t too bad. (Hoping to just give all the recs to my teachers at once; that’s why I haven’t done them)
Scheduled interviews for Hotchkiss and Choate, hopefully will schedule Andover and Deerfield interviews soon.
Submitted candidate profile to Deerfield and Hotchkiss, hoping to get my Mom to fork over $110 so I can start the essays.
Scheduled SSAT (December 11).
Addressed a few envelopes in preparations for recs.
Interviewed at Emma Willard and currently slaving away at the essay (they give you yuck questions).

Still can’t decide if I should also apply to Lawrenceville, Exeter and/or Groton or leave it at PA, Hkiss, Choate, EW and DA They all sound like wonderful schools… But just in case I decide to apply last minute to Lville, I wrote the essays XD
