Ethnicity in Applications

Hi! I'm a rising sophomore in high school, and my dream college has been Yale since the fifth grade (ever since I read a biography about Maya Lin, an architect). But that's beside the point. This question doesn't really restrict itself to just Yale--it's really for any ivy league, or for that matter, any undergraduate college.

I've heard from a few places that colleges like to keep a certain ethnic percentage when they're accepting applicants. For example, Yale might want to have a certain percentage of Asian students, a certain percentage of Caucasian students, etc. It might make sense for me to tell you that I'm Asian.

Does that mean that technically, I'll be competing with the other Asians applying to Yale (in the future)? There's plenty of Asian students out there who have near perfect SAT/ACT scores and have gotten awards from prestigious academic competitions. I was just wondering/worrying.

And I'm sorry if there's already a post/thread about this topic (if so, could you include a link to it? Thanks).

Thanks in advance.

800 posts so far and this is the 10th iteration of an ongoing thread:

BTW, Asian is a race; the only ethnicity of interest for college admissions is Hispanic and Hispanics can be of any race(s).

Thanks! Sorry about that. I’m new here, so I’m a little oblivious.
