Ever think you should have applied elsewhere?

Has anyone looked back at their college application process and wished they had applied to another/different school? Have you ever thought that you underestimated your acceptance potential? If so, where do you go now and where would you have applied to?

Yes to the first and last questions, no to the second.

Wishing I had applied to other schools isn't a question of underestimating my acceptance potential- in fact, if anything, I overestimated it. Rather, I simply wish I'd looked into a few more schools, thought more carefully about what I really wanted before applying, and made more time to visit the schools I did end up applying to.

I applied to nine schools and got into six. I wish I hadn't bothered with UC Berkeley, UC San Diego or UMiami- they're simply too far away from home for me, but I didn't think about that in time. Visiting Marist (sadly, after I'd already paid for my application) made me realize that it definitely wasn't the right school for me.

On the flip side, I wished I'd looked into Syracuse as a potential safety- I was so focused on schools in more major cities that I overlooked this one entirely. Tufts would've been a good fit for me, even though it's probably a bit of a reach, but it flew under my radar for too long. And I eschewed the idea of going to Barnard because of the all-women thing, even though Columbia was my dream school (and dreaming I was- Barnard might have been a possibility, but I was crazy to think I'd get into Columbia). I didn't even bother to figure out how close they really were. So if I could do it all over again, my list would probably look like this: Barnard, BC, BU, Columbia, NYU, Syracuse, Tufts, and UConn.

All that being said, I'm attending UConn in the fall, and I couldn't be more excited. Take that as a lesson, kiddos: even if you make mistakes along the way, and even if you don't get into the school you've been dreaming of since you were in diapers, it doesn't mean your life is over. College can still be totally awesome for you. :D

I applied to 18. And the ones I would've applied to are 'lesser' than the one I'm going to, so no.

"So if I could do it all over again, my list would probably look like this: Barnard, BC, BU, Columbia, NYU, Syracuse, Tufts, and UConn"

You're really in love with Urban schools aren't you?

Old List: Columbia, Amherst, NYU, Syracuse (enrolled), UMass Amherst, BU, Hofstra & wesleyan

If I could do it again it would be this

New List: Syracuse, Cornell, NYU (ED), Penn State, BC, GWU, Fordham, Vassar & UNC Chapell Hill

I only applied to one school, and it was a community college, so I was pretty much accepted instantly (okay, so I got the confirmation in like a week, but I'm pretty sure they almost never turn people away). So there was no real need for me to apply anywhere else - I'm pretty positive I could never have gotten into any university with my grades/credits, plus I never graduated high school and I never took the SAT. And when I transfer I'll only be applying to one school, as they will take me automatically with the degree I'm getting from my CC.

So no, I don't think I should have applied elsewhere, lol. I like my school and I like the school I'll be transfering to and I'm glad I didn't have to go through the process of college apps. Too much work for the same end result; for me, anyway.

I wish I would've applied to UIUC just to see if I could get in. I thought it was a reach that I wouldn't have gotten into because I'm more of an upper average student.

my friend applied to 4 schools... UPenn, Naval Academy, St. Joe's, and Delaware. He was accepted to the latter two and will be attending UD for little $.

But after all the colleges I've told him I'm applying to and have visited (i'm a rising senior), he regrets not applying to more schools. He was a great student in HS and had great chances at any school. he was just really indifferent towards the whole college admissions process.

13 schools. Naw. I think I hit all the ones I would've considered going to. =]

12 schools. i applied premed everywhere.

i am now a business major. i should think i should've applied elsewhere :/ bentley, babson, nyu stern. but i'm pretty happy where i am (bu smg), so i'll stick with it for now. bu doesn't have an extremely high rep at home, where everyone gets into ivies, so somewhat a downer, seeing as i got into much better and higher ranked schools, though for the sciences, but being in the city is wonderful, and SMG itself makes me feel like it's own tiny school :]

Well, if I had to do it again, my list would be differnt, but I would hope for the same end result.

I applied to U Oregon, American, Northeastern, Northwestern, Macalester, and Brown. I got into all but Northwestern and am going to Brown in the fall (was my first choice anyway).

If I had to do it again I would have applied to U Oregon, Macalester and Brown as well as U Washington, Tufts and Yale. Even with the adition of these three schools I would still have Brown as my first choice, so it doesn't really matter. No regrets. :D

I'm going to a top 10 LAC this Fall, but I'm not too sure if liberal arts colleges are for me. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Actually, I think the one and only school I applied to was the perfect choice for me.

Oh yes.

I only applied to the state school in my hometown. The reality for me is that I'm glad I'm spending my first two years helping to take care of my family. But I do wonder where I would have gotten in and now that I'm going to be a transfer applicant I think I'm realizing that I can get into a lot of places that in high school I didn't think I could. I've matured a lot since then.

There were colleges I didn't even know about when I applied...now I'm going farther away from home then I want to. Had I done more extensive research I could be going to a great school near home...but I'm fine with where I'm going.
