Before I commit can someone basically tell me any or everything about IU like something I wouldn’t know or something that u didn’t expect wen u got there. Pros, cons, etc.
Like I said before basically anything

@areid411, my D is also considering IU. It’s a big campus with lots of communities and academic programs. If you’re looking for info beyond the standard guidebooks, it’d probably be best to provide context on your interests and your concerns. Something is holding you back, what is it? Put another way, what would it take to get you to commit?
@DadofThree111 well I’m doing business so its not the program its just if feel like wen I get there something unexpected might happen that I wasn’t aware of. And wat is there to do since ur in the middle of nowhere
@areid411 , then I’d be asking students what surprised them most during their first year at IU. If there are things you’d like to do, then find outhe if they’re available. If you’re looking for new things, ask students what their favorite way to unwind is.
My D will be attending in the fall and we’ve been down to the campus probably 5 or 6 times over the past year. Each time we’ve been on campus, I am amazed and the amount of activity. There always seems to be people on campus or some activity going on. Unlike some other colleges that are more commuter colleges were everyone goes home on weekends, IU doesn’t appear to be that way.
As for things to do, what are your interests? There are some nice State Parks nearby with some good hiking, and there is also a large lake not too far away. One thing that surprised me during our visits and talking to others is how many students are from the Chicago area. Of course our sample of people is fairly small but it seem like 90 percent of the people we’ve met are either from the Indianapolis area or Chicago area.
I’m from the east coast specifically NY and I like basketball and snowboarding
Indiana isn’t exactly known for it ski slopes so snowboarding isn’t going to be much of an option for you. So far this winter we haven’t had much snow at all. There are some places to ski but nothing like you can find in NY. I grew up in Upstate so I familiar with some of the slopes. The one place I know people go is called Perfect North Slopes over on the Indiana Ohio state line. Probably a couple of hours away from Bloomington. The Midwest is pretty flat in general so I don’t think the runs are too long compared to East Coast.
As for basketball, Indiana is crazy about their basketball and IU basketball games are fun to go watch. Indianapolis isn’t too far away so you could always catch a Pacers game from time to time. My guess is you’ll find lots of basketball fans and people who will get pick up games going if you like to play.
If not IU, what are your other options? IU is a great campus and Bloomington is a nice college town. I’ve been to a lot of college campuses through the years and IU is one of my favorites to go visit. My D looked at several Big 10 schools and a couple of SEC schools and IU really has a pretty good vibe to it.
I can second everything dcolosi said about basketball. There is one facility with 10 courts and another with 2. You can find pick-up games basically any time
Well I just turned down NYU and its basically jus USC left
IU does have a ski and snowboarding club you can join. I know they go on trips over break. Also, it’s an incredibly open community that has a niche for literally everything. Another fun fact/perk is that there is often free HIV testing on campus. They really stress sexual health and have a ton of support for students regarding sexual health.
