Can a student from U-Penn do exchange with any universities in the UK? I also applied to some British universities this year, was rejected by Oxford(PPE) and LSE(Philosophy) …(only got into 2 not-so-well known ones). Does anyone know if Upenn has links to any good UK universities (so that perhaps I can get in more easily?)

Ya, they have study abroad programs with all of the top universities in the UK, including oxbridge and lse (and all of the university of london schools for that matter). It should be on the penn2010 site

thanks mate, and is going on exchange in the UK a fairly common thing for U PENN students? by the way do all the schools in university of london count as top or is it only the LSE? i might like to choose another university in london, as I cant stand double rejection. (yeah lol)

there was an article in the DP just yesterday about how the university is trying to discourage foreign exchange due to lost tuition...I think they are charging full tuition regardless of where you study now? I really only skimmed the article...anyone have a link?

The article actuallys states that OTHER universities are enacting policies to restrict study abroad, and that Penn had enacted similar policies of its own a decade before.

UK unis suck, I got admitted to penn with a virtually full scholarship as an int. stundent and rejected from Warwick and Kings college in the UK which are much worse than penn.
(btw, PPE rocks! and I like philosophy too)

haha that's pretty cool..looks we applied to the same bunch of unis..US-wise and UK-wise.. i also did warwick and kings. my other ones were UCL and Nottingham. are you by chance in the A-level system as well?

I am A-levels taker from China. I got offer from University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. I am coming to UPenn for mechanical engineering, although engineering course at Cambridge seems to be way more reputable and in-depth than Penn. Cuz Penn offers greater course flexibility and opportunity for a dual degree with Wharton. However I may consider an exchange back to Cambridge for my junior year, cuz i love Cambridge so much.

wow, we REALLY did apply to similar UK unis. (I guess it is because we are of similar standards). what a coincidence, specially to dnm...I applied to oxford and LSE AND warwick, kings, UCL (just not nottingham). that's 5/6 same unis that we applied to, and for the same subject too, mate! (plus U PENN for US!)

hehe coincidence indeed! damn the A-levels though...dreaded things start next week.

did you cancel your UK apps or are you still going through with UCAS as a safety check even though we've said yes to Penn? i think i have like....5 days to make up my mind.

yes, i only got accepted by King's and Warwick anyway...so I'm definately coming to UPenn (hey, its IVY LEAGUE after all....yeah i'm shallow) The only thing I dislike are people going to harvard/yale calling us "lower" ivies... but then, hell yes I am coming to Upenn. good luck with the A levels. What a nuissance.
