From Knox College's website:
John Huston Finley Scholarships are merit-based awards of up to $2,000 per year ($8,000 over four years) for first-year students from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Candidates for these scholarships have taken challenging classes, performed well, and contributed to their schools and communities. Several Finley Scholars are selected each year on the basis of the application for admission.

Alumni of the New York Knox Club created the scholarships in honor of John Huston Finley, an 1887 graduate of Knox and president of the College from 1892 to 1899. Finley was a distinguished educator, humanitarian, and journalist who became editor-in-chief of The New York Times in the 1920s and 1930s.

Interested students should mail their applications for admission no later than February 1. A separate application is not required.

i didnt get the Muelder based on my test scores. i opted not to send my horrible sat scores. i guess i received it based on my GPA? i am really not sure.

thanks lovelykittycat and god bluth- my application was downloaded on october 26!

god bluth- i think i will be attacking the mailman for the next three months. my mailman should watch out. yesterday was terrible,i peeked through the blinds to see if he was gone to get the mall. once i hear the clanging of our mailbox, i bolted to the front door, then checked to make sure he wasnt still there again. haha.

i wish both of you much luck and that good decisions from knox will be delivered soon! hopefully, neither of you will not attack the mailman in doing so!

I applied to Hendrix quite early (I think by nov 3), tulane (although it hasn't even processed my SAT scores yet...it's so slow..), IWU (haven't finished one paragraph on why IWU so I have to finish it and click the submit button lol).

for regular decisions, a few that i'm applying to is Earlham, Whitman, Reed, Kzoo, Lafayette, St. Olaf...etc.

same here, i applied to a lot of LACs. I applied to Knox (duh), College of Wooster, Drew University in NJ, Ursinus College in PA, Allegheny College in PA, Bard in NY, and two of my state's (NJ) public lacs... its a very big mash up of personalities between each of the schools, i did that on purpose knowing i would probably change my preferences about every minute detail when the big decision has to be made. i had a list of like eleven colleges... and it slowly started to vanish or alter and it was really confusing to keep track. lol. how are you ?

hey lovelykittycat! good luck with the rest of your college apps. you will figure out where else to apply. just realize you must find the perfect fit for yourself academically and socially. i am sure you will find more great schools!

i'd say that the best advice i can give to be on top of everything is to be organized. since we've all done the commonapp for knox, all there is left to do are the supplements. and what i did for recs was..i asked my teachers at the end of last year or over the summer to give them ample time to write me a rec. then i did my college search very carefully over the summer, and gave that list to my cousnelor and fixed some part of the list and finalized it.
then i gave all the envelopes of all colleges to all my teachers and counselors, and thankfully, they were earlybirds and very prompt. they sent out all the envelopes in a bunch already.
so the best advice would be give all your envelopes at once (even for the RD ones) and ask them if they could send them at the same time as EA or ED.
because then you don't have to worry about getting things by the deadline and you surely don't want to miss the deadline because your recs didnt get to the school on time. and if you're worrying about the school putting you in RD or EA, you dont need to, because all they will do is create a file with your name. and as your apps and SAT scores start rolling in, they'll review your application when it's all complete.

so that's my little advice. lol

i gotta say supplements suck though, i have to write like 18 essays....
arggg. it sucks
