Exeter or Andover???

heck no!! i could NOT survive. boys are like food....can't survive without it for too long. :P) plus, it builds are social skills and anyways im a good flirter for some reason....so i luv boys

Co-ed is the way to go, according to one of my friends, who's a girl, and has been at a private all-girls school for a few years, and according to myself, and everyone I know. Some of us boys need girls to talk to, too. It works both ways.

@neatoburrito--I really liked the 3/4 walls at Groton. I though it was cool and unique and a good way to get to know people during your first year, and it's not like there are no walls at all.

@Senay--If you couldn't stand an all-girls school, why are you applying to Emma Willard and Annie Wright?

i'm guessing because emma willard and annie wright are easier to get in?

HAHA glitters426, hit it right on the head. Where are you applying :)

Andover over Exeter (only because Andover's campus is far more beautiful and welcoming)

Really? I thought it was kind of flat and boring. I'm a hill girl, myself. Exeter's campus was broken up, aesthetically, into many different visual planes.

Saer...I totally agree! At Andover, it just seemed like you were always walking a long way to get virtually nowhere...

True. I disliked how Exeter's campus was suburban. I prefer a more rural setting.

I loved Hotchkiss' campus. The hills and lake were so amazing. I felt like I was at a ski vacation resort or something.

ummm...Try Deerfield? Everyone always talks about how Hotchkiss is in the middle of nowhere, but Deerfield is just off the charts. There was a candle factory in Deerfield, and that's it (unless I just totally missed everything!). At least where Hotchkiss is there are some restaurants around, and some nice scenery to look at. Anyhoo, I liked both schools.

I didn't apply to Deerfield, though I wish I did! Hotchkiss was truly in the middle of nowhere. It was a 4 hour drive from my house. Of course we got hopelessly lost. When you drive to Hotchkiss you pass endless fields, rivers, lakes, and farmlands. The Hotchkiss campus is incredible. The main building is very nice. Many classrooms overlook the lake.

I didnt apply to hotchkiss and kind of wish I did also. But no way its as out there as deerfield. Deerfield is in the middle of nowhere. The town may be historical...but I mean. Just looks old to me..im not into all that historic stuff.

No, Hotchkiss is in the middle of nowhere. At least Deerfield is a historic town, Lakeville is basically deserted. As a student I would probably get bored, but it's such an awesome school.

It really depends on the person....I know a lot of people who really liked their time at all-girls boarding schools. Yeah...you don't see guys all the time. But it's not like you never see them at all. There is no "way to go" for everyone.

Hey, I currently go to an all boys school. Granted I don't like the school very much, but I do think all boys is atleast a worth considering dynamic. I'm much closer with all of my friends here than I ever could have been at my old coed school; we treat eachother like brothers, never rivals. Also, your more free to be yourself without the opposite sex judging your every move. The only reason I don't like my current school is that many of the guys/all of them are very very conservative, christian, redneck, racists. They are very smart though, so maybe they're not rednecks? Anyways I just don't fit in with that very well being a liberal atheist. Again though, if your considering whether or not to apply to a single sex school, definitely do it if you think you would fit in there, it's been a really cool experience for me.

Benevolent ... You already asked this question on the thread above and I answered it ...

Well there are a number of things to do at Hotchkiss on weekends. Firstly they bring in AWESOME DJs and so the parties on Saturday's are awesome. Also they bring in interesting acts such as this magician who was also on Jackass he was Great ! Sometimes we have jeopardy style quizzes and stuff like that.

BUT if all of that is not to your fancy then there are always a group of people who go down to New York on weekends to party and just tour the city. It is only like 15 bucks i think to get a train to New York that takes about an hour i believe teachers sometimes drive you to the station as well so that's cool. Furthermore many people at Hotchkiss have homes in New York so it is not uncommon for kids to stay there overnight with friends. Also there are some parties in the country houses of various students every now and again that are notoriously fun. So it is relatively easy to find things to do if you want to. Furthermore Hotchkiss provides buses to nearby Millerton which is a decently sized town. So to say there is nothing to do at Hotchkiss is simply not true.

I don't apologize for the school being surrounded by nature however, rip to the train station means that New York and endless opportunities are available to you. Plus there are restaurants like The Boat House which is VERY good as well as a few other restaurants. Its yo(like the good people at the nature conservatory who named it as one of the top 200 most beautiful places on earth), find the Lakeville countryside simply sublime. It really is refreshing to look out the window and see the beauty of nature surrounding us. The hills of Hotchkiss.

Plus Lakeville and the surrounding towns are very historic as well. The town was a munitions manufacturer during the civil war were made in Lakeville.

Benjamin B. Hotchkiss (his wife gave her name to the school) the man credited with perfecting the machine gun and creating the Hotchkiss Gun which was instrumental in the allied victory in WWI also came from this town. Furthermore numerous important historical events took place in surrounding towns. So Lakeville is also a very historical town. I will ask my teacher for more details on the historical nature of the surrounding areas and get you exact significant occurrences my memory is foggy at the moment.

No, don't get me wrong. Hotchkiss is an amazing school, and I'm sure that there are many enjoyable things to do during free time. It was a real shock to me when I drove out to Lakeville. It was only a 4 hour drive, but there was such a change in setting. Lakeville was very rural which was a bit of a shock, but it was so picturesque and scenic. I would love to be accepted.

I thought this was an E/A thread?

Didn't apply to Andover, but Exeter was my fave out of all the ones that I went to.

which ones did you apply to, Izzy Busy Bee?

I really wish that I had applied to Deerfield now... from all the threads it just seems like a great school...
