Expecting a waitlist.. can I send new ACT scores?

Hey everyone. I applied in Sep and as its now Jan and as I have had no response , I am slowly coming to the reality that im probobly waitlisted. This is supported that I applied with low stats ( 3.3 UW GPA, 24 ACT )

So my question is, I noticed appeals for waitlist and denials go until July this year. My Senior year GPA is a 3.8UW and above a 4.0 weighted… Ive decided in retaking the ACT on Feb 7th… probobly should have asked this before i paid, but I can update my stats later right?

Likely but call Admissions Monday to confirm.

@MinnesotaPlease, you’ve probably already seen this but just in case: http://umn.force.com/admissions/apex/KnowledgeTCAdmissionsHome?articleId=kA0o0000000OGO8CAO

Calling Admissions is a great way to get clarification. For an appeal to be considered looks like they definitely want to see updated transcripts and new and compelling information not already included in your ap. I’d interpret that to mean it’s pretty open ended. Be sure to get some rec. letters written on your behalf. Also, have a good explanation for why that first ACT score is low and how you improved your senior year grades due to (fill in the blank with really good explanation).

Good luck with your ACT in February!

Yup!
This Is my plan: if I get in before Feb, then I just won’t have to retake it. If the wait list or denial comes, I will appeal with a higher act score, updated trend in grades, and rec letters from my HS counciler and 2 CITS teachers. I will tell them the reason for the 1st act score being lower is that it was in June when my direction in college was more local and I did not challenge myself.

I just took a practice ACT and got about a 27, just science pulled me down. Time to hit the books!

For the purpose of future proofing this thread in case anyone may come upon it:

After a long future-life talk with my GF and others, I decided in cancelling my next act test and getting the partial refund, and any other attempts to get into the main U. I concluded that since the main U requires the writing test portion that it would be at least late march, it wasnt a bad plan but because of personal reasons ill be going to a different college

Thanks everyone!

I see you decided already, but you should know that at many schools, once you have one test on file with writing, any others you submit do not need to have the writing portion. I can’t recall what UMN policy is, but anyway it’s very common though not always explicitly stated on website. You have to call and ask.

I have taken the ACT with writing countless times now, and the writing score has always been ready with the rest of the scores within 2.5 weeks.

My D’s writing score was delayed a couple weeks after she received her ACT composite score; however, that was from the April exam which is a very popular date to take the test. The delay was expected. Her composite score was available online only 9 days after taking the exam which I think was a bit early.
