I’m an international MBA student on F1 visa. I’ve been expelled days before graduation for a minor fight with another student. I’ve good academic standing with GPA of 3.4, and have already secured a job.
Also, I’ve already completed all the credits required for graduation and per my conversation with Office of International Services at the university my OPT is still available.
Should I get enrolled in any other university? Can I get my transcript transferred? What would be the best possible option for obtaining a masters diploma from a US university given that I’ve already completed all the credits?
Most schools require you to be on campus for a certain number of credits. Ask your current school if there is any path to graduation for you (taking time away from school, etc). And don’t downplay something as a “minor fight” - don’t minimize your transgression in anyway. Be all remorse, no excuses, no matter what. No matter what you think, clearly the school saw it differently under their rules.
You will have to notify your employer if you aren’t allowed to graduate after working through your options.
Expelled indicates more than “a minor fight”.
Expelled at a graduate level? That doesn’t sound like a “minor fight.” You’re talking folks who are 23 or 24??
At this point there is the likely possibility of deportation as well as not being allowed back in the US on any kind of visa. If the other student decided to press charges, then there is no recourse.
Not to mention that the job offer will be withdrawn. Given the political climate these days you have very few options.
If you can afford an attorney, find one as soon as possible.
I think this is important enough to bear repeating. @technerd101 - This is all serious business; you really need a lawyer.
“If an F-1 student is expelled from school he/she is considered out of status and must leave the United States immediately. There is no grace period.”
OP @technerd101 could you appeal expulsion? You will need lawyer. Immigration law is complex.
Your school will report your status within 21 days
https://www.ice.gov/sevis/dso-requirements
General F-1 and M-1 reporting requirements: DSOs are required to keep student records up-to-date by reporting changes in:
Student or dependent name or address
Academic program and status, including early graduation/completion
Disciplinary action taken by the school, as a result of a conviction of a crime
Employment, including STEM OPT reporting requirements
Failure to maintain status/complete program
Time Limit for DSO Reporting in SEVIS: Within 21 days of the change (8 CFR 214.3(g)(2)(ii))
@technerd101 does your university have International Student office? Ask about appeal of expulsion or having F1 reinstated.
This is complex and you could be barred from re-entry
