Experience Stony Brook for commuters?

Ok so I got a calendar of events in a newspaper in the mail. At Orientation Part I, multiple people said commuters only come on Sunday for Experience Stony Brook. In the calendar, there are events listed on all 3 days which state "Required for all new students":

Friday (6:00 PM sign-in, 6:45 convocation)
Saturday (Undergraduate Programming/Activity and Lunch 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM)
Sunday (This Community Belongs to All of Us 9:30 AM to 3 PM)

I don't understand why my orientation leader and one of the advisers told me commuters only had to come on Sunday while the calendar states otherwise. This is kind of frustrating, driving to campus will not be fun during rush hour on Friday, especially when the events are only from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

I have an e-mail in with Commuter Student Services and I’ll let you know what I find.

Word from Shannon in Commuter Student Services is that yes, the entire weekend is required, and that the OLs were definitely trained to tell everyone that, so she’s not sure who told you that Sunday was the only required day.

As far as the rush hour question, Shannon actually got it moved back – it was originally planned to start right in the middle of rush hour, so you’re actually a little better off. In addition, Friday evening’s convocation is relatively brief, but it’s followed by the First Night Carnival, so the actual evening doesn’t end until closer to 11:00.

Hope this helps! Call the Commuter Student Services office (631-632-7353) and talk to Shannon; she’ll help you. She said she’d contact you directly, but I don’t know who you are, so call her.

Wow, thanks so much for the reply! I just looked at the calendar again and realized I skipped over the carnival on my first reading. That sounds great and makes much more sense then just coming for 2 hours. Thank you!

so, i’m a cummuter, too. and they told me at the first orientation that I would only have to be there saturday and sunday.
now i looked at that scedule and it looks like i have to be there fr. and sat.
The other things on fr. and the whole day on sunday does not seem to be mendetory for me. I work on fridays do I can’t really be there (is there a way that I can sign in sat. morning). I allready tried to call the orientation department and left my number, but nobody called me back.
