Explain Dorming at UCSB

I have no background info on the dorming situation at UCSB so any information towards which dorms are best (for quieter students, noisier students, etc.), the application process, and overall life in a dorm at UCSB, would be greatly appreciated!

for freshman there are a few dorming options. The shortys, san miguel and san nic, and FT. The shortys consist of three buildings, Anacapa, Santa Cruz, and Santa rosa. All are two stories only and are closest to the beach and are on campus. San Miguel is a tower on campus but it is kind of older. San nic consists mostly of summer start program kids but are kind of older like san miguel. And finally FT is the wayy off campus housing that looks like a hotel. There is also another building called manzanita but thats a mix of freshman and sophomores and stuff. Honestly dorm life is hit or miss, sometimes you fall into a good hall and sometimes you fall into a boring one. I personally recommend the shortys because its on campus, close to the beach, relatively newer, and just a safe option for someone who isnt too picky. Good luck
