Extra credit in High School

So lately I've been hearing a lot of teachers saying that there is not allowed to be extra credit. Now I'm not talking about the fail all semester then skim by with extra credit type. My question concerns getting over a 100 in a class. The other day we took an exam in science which I got a 43/45 on but most people didn't do so hot so my teacher put a curve of 5 points making my grade a 43/40. I feel cheated since I deserve my full 5 points of curve but he says it's a policy that they can't give extra credit... What sense does that make? Help -.- he said he'd talk to the higher ups..

That’s strange- at my school teachers throw extra credit around ridiculously. Seriously, I got over 100 in all my classes last year with minimal effort. My health teacher would give us extra credit for dressing up on spirit days and other lame crap. I think it’s because our school’s scores are so low.

That’s weird since my school is reluctant to give it een when deserved…

My school never gives extra credit, and I’ve never heard of any classes graded on a curve. As a result, we don’t have as much grade inflation as most schools.

I personally think that a lot of extra credit is plain ridiculous. Most extra credit is given out for little things, when it should be given out for truly putting in “extra” effort.

In my school, it’s 50/50. Some teachers give, some don’t.
Like my stubborn english teacher…

At my school, you can give extra credit and get above 100 on individual assignments, but your total grade can’t peak 100. The credit basically helps to make up for lost points. For example, sometimes I miss a homework assignment in French, which is worth 3 points. Then if I get 21/20, 76/75, and 101/100 on quizzes and tests, that missed assignment won’t matter.

giving you you points is not extra credit. Double check the actual school policy and definitn of extra credit. I agree, you should get your full 5 point curve, or you should be the top.

Dressing up for spirit day? Are you kidding me!? O.e

Some of my teachers put bonus questions on tests and they’re worth 1-5 points… My english teacher did give a 5 point bonus ‘coupon’ if we brought in a box of tissues. :p

At my school, there’s absolutely no extra credit whatsoever. However, some teachers drop the lowest quiz grade, but that’s really rare.

Well, teachers like my Physics teacher gives a lot of extra credit. I usually score perfect on his tests and he ends up curving them, like, 5 points. So I end up with a 55/50.

My APUSH teacher on the other hand, also gives a lot of extra credit but refuses to go over 100%. I could get a 99 on a quiz, get 10 bonus points, and end up with a 100.
