Extra Credit?

Just wondering if your teachers give extra credit? Is it little or a lot? Does it make a difference? Which teachers give EC? I'm a freshman and my honors history teacher is giving us 15 EC if we make a little powerpoint over something...

I can earn extra credit in AP Chem and AP Physics. It seems like science classes are more willing to give extra credit on a regular basis because they know their classes are easier to fail and they pretty much do everything to pick us poor kids up. I've never (NEVER) gotten extra credit in math, I'm guessing because they're so numbers oriented that they want everything to be perfectly categorized and don't need extra credit messing everything up. English and History teachers are more likely to be like, oh, go find -random fact here- and I'll give extra credit. They're more informal about it.

Actually, the only teachers of mine who give extra credit are Math and Chem. My Chem teacher loves for us to find articles in magazines or newspapers that are relevant to what we're learning about. Math = 3 point question on every 30 point quiz and 5 point question on every test. That's why my Math average is 101.5 (which makes me happy considering it's Math xD).

Most of my teachers (English, French, History, Math, Bio) give EC but some only give about 5 points. But my French Class is so easy I have a 104 in that class because of all the free points. It's impossible to fail right now, even if I don't do anything.

Usually AP Chem extra credit arrives in the form of a very, very difficult question or two at the end of each test. I usually just write something down or try to do the first step of the problem; my teacher'll toss me a point or two.

I've never gotten extra credit in math other than from my awesome freshman geometry teacher, who gave us credit for hand-drawing our own tessellations and other cool stuff.

^^^ My 9th grade Geometry teacher gives 15 Ec points at the beginning of the year in the form of (teacher's name goes here) points. Its just a piece of papers with bills printed on them.

Our school gives lots of EC. At one point, I had over 100s in 4 classes.

But it always seems as if the toughest classes always dish out the least extra credit.

no real EC here... ever.

The occasional math ec problem (like once every semester for like 2 pts) and it is freaking impossible...

Well, in my 9th and 10th grade pre-IB classes, you could get extra credit by bringing in tissues etc, but in all of my IB classes this year, there is no extra credit at all.

I think I only got extra credit in ONE of my honor classes but that's pretty much it.

i got EC for giving blood yesterday

My AP Bio teacher doesn't give a 1st sem. final. Instead she gives a practice AP for extra credit. Because it's too early in the year, most people get about 5 points for it out of potentially 20.

And my H. PreCal teacher gives tons of EC, but it's mostly study material that actually really helps comprehension and improves test grades; I'd do it even if there were no points attached.

uh, I had extra credit in my math class soph year (my math teacher was horrendous-would say to solve for the wrong things, etc, on problems) & now I have a bitty bitty part of extra credit (2 points if you do all corrections for the test-due the next day, no exceptions). My global teacher freshman year also gave a few bonus questions here or there-but only 6/60 people stayed in honors (you have to keep a 90 all three trimesters in her class-which was incredibly hard)

oh, and I just remembered that my latin teacher gives about 7 points of extra credit on each test. This MAY seem ridiculous, but not if the average for the test (including ec) is about a 68. About three to four people get over a 90, and the rest really do bad...

i received 10 extra credit pts for going to a football game (big match). I guess because my teacher was the football coach lol.

LOL I had a paper in english and wrote it the night before it was due, but the teacher thought that I put so much time in it and loved it so much that I ended up getting 150 out of 100 on the paper. Got a 100% in the class because of that.

Depends on the class...

My english classes gave a lot of extra credit especially in the form of if you read it in front of the class..

My science and math classes had extra credit in the form of a question on tests or some quizzes.

For Social Studies...na da..zip..

my new calculus teacher sees extra credit as a form of cheating because it raises your grade unfairly

I get no extra cred in English this year because---well my teacher is the hardest, most severe/respected one in the school and I'm pretty sure nobody has had the courage to ask her for extra credit. but i have a feeling she'd give it to us if we asked. lol. but usually for English--reading and doing a project on an extra book qualifies as ec
For math my teachers give extra cred for 1 pt per question you get right in math league or on the ASMA.
For history usually extra cred depends on the teacher but I get some points for doing NHD (they'll only give it to you if you take the initiative to ask though).
None of my science classes have ever given extra cred. Except for chem there was this thing for Mole Day. but it really sucks because 1) Chem and Physics are some of the hardest courses, 2) I am horrible at science....and my AP Physics teacher refuses to give extra credit and its really annoying! I am trying to convince him. lol.

how does extra cred raise your grade unfairly if you are working for it an everyone in the class gets an equal opportunity to do it?

Same here, and besides that, we only get quizzes for grades, no homework grades or anything else.

As far as my other classes go, most teachers give some form of extra credit, like adding points to your lowest test grade, or even better, full number increases for projects (like 4 whole points for an AP Psych project...90 => 94).

APUSH: A pretty good amount, but the grades are low anyway.
Early Brit. Lit.: A lot, but the teacher grades harshly.
Spanish: A lot.
Orchestra: Who needs extra credit?!?
AP Stats: None.
Chem: None.
