I've never dealt with extra credit, but our English teacher just offered it. It's due tuesday so I don't time to ask her this so I'll ask you guys. Is extra credit typically taken from zero (ex If I have 400/500 points and do an extra credit assignment for 50 points and get 100% I'll have 450/500.) Or is it like an optional but normal assignment (I'd get 450/550?) Please help me cause It's counted the first way, It'll bring my A to an A+ (The examples weren't my actual grade.)

It depends on the teacher.

Most of the time it is out of zero. At my school the grades typically go into categories such as test or homework where different categories are worth a different percent of the grade. At one point I had an extra credit assignment in a category with no other assignments and my grade percent became infinity. It was awesome.

It is usually out of zero in my school.

^^In our school, extra credit=points added to tests.

It’s almost usually counted the first way, at least at my school. The second way would be detrimental, it looks like, if you didn’t do it? Maybe I’m interpreting it wrong.

eartheyes,

Usually if extra credit is done the second way, kids who don’t do the optional assignment just have their grade out of 500. So if you did the EC you’d have a 450/550, but if you didn’t you’d just have a 400/500. It raises your grade so it’s worth it a lot of times.

As for how it’s done at my school, it just depends on teacher.

Extra credit is typically taken from zero. An optional assignment is like a normal assignment. We have both at my school (but optional assignments are pretty rare).

Considering we have no extra credit

Extra credit at my school is rare. When given, it is usually the second type you mentioned, where it would be 450/550. However, when given, it would raise the 400/500 to a mere 410/510. That’s why no one does it and teachers don’t give them often.

Usually from zero.
