Is starting junior year too late to join a club/team with the hope of rising to a prominent position?
there's just so much i can/want to do but i don't know where to start.

like, I'm interesting in joining the school newspaper, as well as the science olympiad team and key club with the hope of getting a leadership position by the end of junior year... or at least accomplishing something with myself. right now, i got nada.

So speak from your experiences.

what i have already:
a couple years as a nobody on the varsity fencing team
a year on the business staff on a literary magazine.
art published on the school's art mag.
i paint murals and sell my art to people.
i'm in the science res. program and national science honor society
i had my poetry published by creative communications
i did fairly well in the national latin exam and got a silver medal.
i am going to volunteer in a hospital/ ambulance corps this summer.

i just need a good boost.

What's your motivation? Do you want to join these activities because you wish to gain titles that will look good on a resume? Or do you wish to join them because you think you'd enjoy them, and become a leader to improve the organization and refine your leadership skills? If it's the former, don't even bother. If it's the latter, go for it, it's certainly not too late.

I joined my high school's new robotics team during my junior year and was co-captain the following year. I joined my college's student newspaper staff my freshman year, was made a section editor after a month, and became editor-in-chief the following year. I re-started my current university's physics club and instantly became the president. Where there's a need, you can fill it. The trick is to actually want to make a difference.

i want to join them because i know what i like to do, and i know i can thrive doing those activities, and i'm pretty sure i can do well.

lol, if nobody is active in them and trying to get leadership positions. or if u work reallyyyyy hard

If you want a leadership position definitely join key club. I am going to be VP this fall and I only joined last year. I found that it was suprisingly easy to get a position in Key Club. Also, I joined FCCLA last year and I will be co-president this year. So if you show initiative and involvement as a new member, you should have no problem becoming an officer the following year.

it's different in every skool, lol
