So, I've been thinking about possibly and finally joining my school's newspaper next year as a junior, because a) my school doesn't allow for freshmen on the crew and b) this year as a sophomore I couldn't fit it into my schedule.

Do you guys think colleges frown upon people joining extracurriculars during their juniors... will they think that you're "uncommitted" and solely joining them to "boost your apps" cuz that's not the same and I seriously want to write on the newspaper. I just feel a little insecure about how colleges will perceive this.

Colleges prefer that you are involved in EC's all four years in high school. But I hardly think that it would disadvantage you to join newspaper. Honestly, if its something that you care about and really want to do for the experiance, it will show on your application. Don't let what colleges may or may not think keep you from participating in a worthwhile activity.

it won't hurt you... unless you're doing like a million random activities all of a sudden lol. and even then, who cares. just keep being you. if the college doesnt accept you or whatever then it's not the right place for you. (:

No, it's not a disadvantage, but if you're worried about it you can always attach a note of explaination. Just make sure to follow through with your other ECs so that your commitment is evident.

Thanks for everyone's help! And Liist, coincidentally, I do play the piano haha.

I think I may write on the newspaper senior year also, maybe evening earning an editor-status. So in conclusion, everyone thinks that colleges won't frown upon extracurriculars just 11th/12th?
