Hello!
I’m a rising senior and 4 /10 of my extracurricular activities I’m beginning this summer, partially because I didn’t know what my passion was before these past few months, but also because my parents made me quit my extracurriculars near the end of my sophomore year. They caught my sister doing drugs and didn’t want me to have the chance to try as well, so I didn’t do much my junior year. I’m planning on explaining why in the additional info section, but I’m worried colleges might see the activities I’ve loaded on as if I’m scrambling to boost my resume. Is my concern waranted?
I would not explain that you didn’t do activities because your parents were worried about you ending up like your sister. That might give them reason to think you are under your parents thumb.
Also, given the mayhem going on, I think as long as you are truly interesting in the new activities you pursue, it’s fine to list them, even if they are recent.
I think admissions officers would be more understanding to that though. Lots of high schoolers have controlling parents but that doesn’t reflect their potential to succeed in college.
