Extracurriculars/Standing Out

(Sorry in advance for the grammar I was kind of rushed) I have really high dreams for college, and I’m In high school. I’m taking the difficult classes and a member of five different clubs, but I’m worried about Extracurriculars because I don’t do the traditional STEM club, math Olympiads, debates, basically I don’t compete. I will be a cheerleader and a dancer, but what can I do to ensure my application stands out among these amazing people who take Precalculus their freshman year and do impressive things like that?

Read “How to be a High School Superstar” by Cal Newport for some tips on how to think about extra curricular activities, as that seems to be your areas of concern. Obviously high grades in difficult classes and good test scores will also matter.

Thank you so much! I will read it this weekend!

Be passionate about what you do. That’s how you stand out from everyone else. If you don’t do math club or debate because you don’t like it, then it would be more of a disadvantage to take it. Strive to be the best at what ever you like to do. I know it sounds cliché, but it really is true.
