Extremely overanxious question

when i check my application document chart, it says that my acts are received and that my sats are waived; however, the test summary section of the website indicates that they have received and processed both my sat and act. i sent both because my mom thought it couldn’t hurt, but now i’m worried that they’re primarily going to consider my act (given that the sat is listed as waived). not that it’s bad (35), just that i feel that my sat (2370) is both maybe slightly better and one of the stronger things on my application. is this a logical concern, or will the committee obviously look at and consider both? i can’t tell…

You have got to be kidding me. Both a 35 and a 2370 are incredible scores and are both above the 75th percentile for people ACCEPTED to Amherst. If you’re going to get rejected (which is pretty unlikely unless there is something weird going on you haven’t mentioned) it isn’t going to be because you sent them your 35 act score…

^That. When your folder is brought to the admissions committee, your GPA, class rank, SATs/ACTs, and APs are all rolled into a single number (1 through 6) that summarizes your academic stats. If you have excellent grades, you will be an academic ‘1’, regardless of which score the admissions dean uses to calculate your score. Relax.

ok thanks sorry i know it was a ridiculous question, as i said i tend to be pretty high-strung about these things. my grades and rank aren’t that excellent (slightly below top-10% at a typical public school).

it’s maybe a little too late now, but was i supposed to send an official ap score report? as far as i know i only did self-reporting on the common app…

Nah, no worries. I was hella stressed until I got the acceptance letter, too. And I’m sorry if ‘relax.’ came off as overly curt.

Anyway, to answer your question, self-reported AP scores should be fine, though I’m honestly not sure what weight AP scores carry in the admissions decision. That said, if you’re concerned about your grades/rank, good showings on AP tests couldn’t do anything but help you.

Best of luck!
