I just received emails stating that I was ineligible for admission to SFSU and waitlisted for CSUS.
I earned most of my college units at UC Berkeley which is in Alameda county. However I am trying to transfer to a CSU (long story). The problem is that I live in Yolo County. Yolo County is a local service area for CSUS (CSU Sacramento) but Alameda county is a local service area for SFSU (San Francisco State University). Local eligibility is based on both where I completed the majority of my college units AND my residency. This means that neither CSU considers me as a local (I applied to both for FA16 and just received emails that I was uneligible as I am non-local and do not have a 3.00).
What can I do? I’ve been reading California residency laws to see if I can establish residency in one of SFSU’s local service areas (I have relatives that live there) but they all deal with in-state vs out-of-state and nothing regarding counties. Is there any way I can change my county residency to a Bay Area county? Can I list a relative’s address (where I will live if I go to SFSU) even though my parents live in Yolo County? I will be an independent (born before Jan 1, 1993) so I’m not sure what I can consider as “my” permanent address. I absolutely do not want to do anything illegal, but I can’t find any legislation regarding establishing permanent residency outside of in-state/out-of-state discussion. I plan to live in the Bay Area after I graduate anyway so does this constitute intent to establish residency? I really don’t know. I’m at a loss.
I’m above the GPA requirement for local residents but beneath the requirement for non-locals. However, I have until Mar 15th to make my case for a 2nd review of my application with any new information I can bring to light. If I can be declared local at SFSU this would greatly help my case.
Thanks in advance! I really appreciate any advice you can provide.
