I thought for sure I was gonna get this scholarship, but I guess I didnt, I didnt get any scholarships from IU! This sucks, but anyways, does anybody know the requirements to get this award? Thanks.

Faculty Awards
Faculty Awards are automatically awarded to non-residents who have exceptional SAT or ACT scores, class ranks, and GPAs. These awards are renewable for a maximum of four years and can be valued up to $28,000 ($7,000 per year). No separate application is necessary for consideration.

tripperian35, what were your stats?

3.9 GPA
1200 SAT (re-took them 2 days ago)
27 ACT
Top 10% class rank (top 7% I think)

That doesn't make sense, but again, you are applying for spring semester, and I don't know how much funds they have for spring students. I had a 3.67 and a 29 and got 6K, so surely you should get some dough. Call them and ask what's up, you should at least get about 5K (I think they go mainly by test scores). You sure there wasn't a "Scholarship Notification" in your admittance packet?

Nope there wasnt, I havent got any fin aid info except for that online thing. But hopefully I will get some.

Faculty awards are automatic? Last year my son had a 3.97 gpa (unweighted) and a 1410 SAT (old test) and didn't get one. He did finally get a little from the music school, but only when he told someone in the music school that he wouldn't be able to come without some grant money. Are these awards perhaps limited to first come, first served?

Oh, just a quick addition. The online thing apparently does not yet have all the awards listed. My son's grant was from two different sources, and only one is currently listed, even though both are renewable for four years. His loans, on the other hand, are both listed.

So ur saying that some other award might be listed later on?

I think that may be possible. I don't know if it is different for incoming freshmen or not. But maybe there is still hope. :-)

Susan, my son applied around Thanksgiving or early December, and he automaticallyl got a $24K faculty award. I don't know if it's different from year to year, though. I know his gpa was a 3.64 or something like that, and he got a 29 on his ACT. He was only just in the top third of his class, however.

I would contact the school to ask, even though your son is going into Sophomore year.

Wow that gets me mad, ur son got that much money, and I might not get any when I have better stats (not to sound rude, just a little peeved).

Haha, I have those exact same stats. Class Rank, ACT, GPA (3.63).

How much did u get?

A2Wolves:

"Haha, I have those exact same stats. Class Rank, ACT, GPA (3.63)."

I know! I actually wrote (the same as A2Wolves), but erased it before posting, figuring you could share that if you wanted to.

I'm sure your parents are just as happy about that scholarship as I am! Since your class rank is also just in the top third, your school must be large, too.

Trip, Wolves got the same $24K scholarship my son did.

AimHigh,
I just finished emailing the Admissions Department, asking why my son did not receive the award and if it is possible for him to receive it for his remaining years at IU. It would be a wonderful help to us if he could. IU did not meet need at all, and we could really use some grant money. I'll let you know what I hear from them. Thanks for the suggestion!

My school graduated 707 seniors this year, so we're pretty big. 110 kids are attending Michigan next year.

Susan, good luck! Wouldn't that be a nice surprise??!! Yes, do keep us posted.

Wolves, my son is graduating this Sunday and there are 1,200 in his class, so his is a little bit bigger. That's a large number going to MI. Only a handful of kids got into U of I, Champaign, despite how competitive our h.s. is, but they're not kind to those who are in-state. They'd rather pull kids from out of state and charge them higher tuition.

He'll have fun at graduation. Ours was a blast, we had beach balls being tossed around, lots of cheers, everyone was in good spirit. And we had an all-night party that night, which was fun until everyone got cranky and tired at 5AM, lol.

"but they're not kind to those who are in-state. They'd rather pull kids from out of state and charge them higher tuition."

Sounds like Michigan. Except Michigan has no problem attracting those OOS kids, whereas not many want to go to UIUC OOS (I heard the campus was bad from many people).

Alright back to the faculty award....
If I dont get any money, Im gonna chew them out saying I know people who got tons of money when I had better stats than they did, hopefully it will at least make me feel better.
