Faculty Connection?

I’m going to apply to Penn RD. My cousin is currently on the faculty of Penn (Wharton, actually), as some sort of professor (assistant? No idea) of economics. I visited his office when I visited Penn actually, he’s a pretty smart guy and is apparently still moving through the faculty. Can he write me a recommendation that might help? How about just mentioning him in the additional info? Anything? If it’s unlikely that he would help at all, I dont want to bother mentioning and risk annoying the adcoms. Thanks all.

Maybe you could try a supplemental recommendation. I don't think you'd want to submit one from him in lieu of teacher recs. but I don't see how an extra one could hurt.

I agree with the above.

It can't hurt, but if he's an assistant professor that means he hasn't been around long so his recommendation probably won't carry much weight. But again, can't hurt.

And Wharton doesn't have Professors of Economics - those are in the College.

yea you can't submit it instead of a teacher recc..your just not allowed haha..i don't think it could hurt..but he is your cousin so he's incline to sa good things...not just some important person that is reccomnending you
