I did the efile of taxes and made payment which they took the very next day out of my bank account. I waited a little more than a week and went back in to FAFSA to do the IRS data retrieval tool changing the "will file" to "already filed" but it doesn't work yet.

Now, I am getting messages from other places, Cal Grant for example, saying I have an error on Fafsa and I'm missing data and have no SAR. What should I do? Should I put the figures in by hand and save it or ? Switch it back to will file? There doesn't seem to be any way to check and see if it's possible to do the data retrieval tool without it actually erasing the data and then when you can't use the tool, the data is erased anyway? HELP!

(Then I saw a post that said try to order a transcript and if you can, then taxes are processed but I can't order one. I tried to see if I could get 2011 thinking there was a discrepancy in the address like others reported last year so I could find out how the address was set up and it let me do that when I really didn't even want it. It doesn't even ask for a confirmation or anything, just clicking on the button orders it!)

Go to the Help page at the FAFSA website. You can chat with them live online, or call the toll free number to get this sorted out.

Thank you. I did call and they said that what they are seeing is not blank and I just have to wait until I can use the data retrieval tool. The rep didn’t know why Cal Grant and others are saying missing data and no SAR available. Because I wasn’t able to link, I never signed and submitted the changes or I would have had trouble going back after I do link he said. The whole process is so “nice” in theory, but not nice in reality if it doesn’t work.

Other than using the tax transcript request, there is no easy way to find out if my return has been processed and it doesn’t matter if they took my money, the return is still not processed. If you were lucky enough to qualify for a refund, you can do the “where is my refund” to see if your return has been processed. If it’s still not available by March 2, I’ll have to submit it anyway without the data retrieval tool and then order the transcripts later. This is frustrating!
