Fafsa not received by school

My daughter submitted her fafsa 3 months ago, & we received confirmation by email that it was processed on 3/6/12.The school's financial aid ofice contacted her today stating they hadn"t received her fafsa,& she is ineligible for financial aid in the Fall, 2012. Is her fafsa info. at the school or should i be contacting the fafsa agency to hopefully get
things back to normal. Please help.

I assume you double checked that everyone is using same numbers, spellings etc?

Go online and check that everything is accurate on your FAFSA. Sometimes people put the wrong school code in. Schools upload FAFSA periodically and any FAFSAs with the correct code should be received by the school. Also make sure that the name and SSN are correct at both the school and on FAFSA.

Here are the common issues I encountered while working in financial aid:

-There is more than one campus (or there is a law or med school), and the FAFSA was sent to the wrong campus (or to the law or med school).
-The SSN on the FAFSA does not match the SSN the school has on file.
-The name on the FAFSA does not match the name the school has on file (this is less common, as most schools match by SSN).

The wrong school code (#1 above) is the most common problem - the FAFSA is stuck in suspense. If this is the case, yes, you missed the deadline. Same if there is incorrect info on the FAFSA.

You may be able to appeal and possibly get institutional aid, if any is still available (it might not be) in the following cases:
-If the school has the SSN or name incorrectly entered in their system AND it is not as a result of incorrect information you gave them (that is, it is an error in entry on their part).
-If you can prove to the school that the FAFSA was indeed processed and sent to the correct school code - everything that you provided is correct on the FAFSA and in the admission file - and somehow the school missed loading a batch of FAFSAs (yours being one of the batch). I have seen this happen.

Even so, there may be no aid to give at this point. They can’t give you what isn’t there.

However, remember that once this is straightened out, your D will be eligible for federal aid in the form of Pell (if the EFC is in Pell range) and Direct Loans (subsidized if there is demonstrated need, and unsubsidized for sure). That eligibility is there even if the FAFSA is filed after the school’s internal deadline for aid.
