FAFSA Question 30

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

I'm currently filling out my FAFSA, and question 30 has got me a little bit confused:

"When you begin the 2012-2013 school year, what degree or certificate will you be working on?"

The options are as follows:
- 1st Bachelor's degree
- 2nd Bachelor's degree
- Associate's degree (occupational or technical program)
- Associate's degree (general education/transfer program)
- Certificate/Diploma (occupational/technical/education program less than 2 years)
- Certificate/Diploma (occupational/technical/education program more than 2 years)
- Teaching credential program (nondegree program)
- Graduate/Professional program
- Other/undecided

I'm currently a high school senior planning on attending a four year university for my Bachelor's in Elementary Education. However, it says "when you start the 2012-2013 school year", which has already started, and obviously, I'm working on getting my high school diploma. Although, I feel like they assume you'll be graduating since you're applying for money for higher education.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, what do I put down? or this a better question for my counselor?

You’re mistakenly filling out the FAFSA for last year, which is why the dates don’t make sense. The FAFSA for the 2013-2014 school year (your freshman year in college) won’t be available until January 1. You can gather the information you need now, but you can’t file until then.
