In February, I completed and submitted my son's FAFSA for the 2010-2011 school year, indicating that he is the only family member in college. I noticed that the FAFSA is for the period 7/1/10 through 6/30/11. If my daughter (she will graduate from H.S. in May 2011) takes a college summer school class or 2 (which begin in May or June 2011) can this count as having 2 children in college for this FAFSA period (2010-2011)?

I don’t think so. Your daughter will be a full time student in the fall of 2011…not during the 2010-2011 school year while your other child is in college.

No, do not count your daughter. HOWEVER … when your daughter files her FAFSA, she will be able to put 2 in college.

And for that 2011-2012 FAFSA, if your son is still in college, he too will be able to put 2 on his.

But for 2010-2011, your daughter will NOT be a college student during the academic year 2010-2011.

Even if the summer term is 10-11, the daughter will be able to put 2 in college … but because she is not in school during the regular academic year 10-11, the son can’t include his sister.

Ahh, I see, thank you for your help.
