Failed a class freshman year

I am an incoming senior and I really wanted to go to a decent UC. (Irvine, Santa Barbara etc...)

I started my freshman year quite poorly. I ended up getting 3 C's that year and I failed English second semester. That summer, I retook it and managed to get an A.

I turned things around starting sophmore year and right now my UC GPA is a 3.9, and I have a 2090 SAT score, and I think I can break 2200 in October. I know that UC's but very little weight on freshman year, but I still failed a class. Do I still have a decent chance? Did this really screw up my chances?

Thanks in advance.

Sure, failing a class isn’t good, but colleges love to see a student come out the hole and redeem themselves. Improvement and dedication is what gets students into colleges, not just a prefect 4.0 GPA. You still have good chances. Just keep on working hard, and keep those grades up and you’ll be fine. :)

True that, I think that colleges look for and actually prefer people who show steady improvement from freshman to senior year
