I took a community college class last semester and failed it with a 65%. It isn’t on my high school transcript but colleges will still see it. Will this get me rescinded?
Are you a senior who has already been accepted somewhere? If so, call the college and ask. Any chance you can retake it in the spring semester?
Haven’t been accepted anywhere yet, have just applied. Don’t think I have the time to retake unfortunately. But I plan to retake in the future.
someone help, please? I’m very stressed.
So if you did not take this college course as a dual enrollment student, did you take it for personal enrichment? Which course and is it UC transferable?
Based on your other thread, you have applied to some very Reachy schools including several of the UC’s. If you do not plan to retake the course next semester and it is UC transferable, you are going to have a difficult time convincing the UC’s not to rescind your acceptances. There is no deadline on when you need to contact the colleges you applied other than you cannot put off not notifying these schools since they will eventually ask for your HS and College transcripts and colleges do not like surprises. The best thing you can do in this situation is show all the colleges in which you applied that you are going to retake the class this semester.
For the UC’s you need to contact them see below. You could always call admissions and ask an open ended question regarding your situation and see what options are available to maintain any acceptances.
If there are changes to your academic record…
Freshmen: If you change schools, add or drop a course, or fail to earn a C or better in a course after you submit your application, you must notify the UC Application Center by email or postal mail. Your correspondence must include your name, UC Application ID number and your signature (if you mail a letter), and will be available to all the campuses to which you applied.
If you receive an offer of admission, be sure to confirm with the campus admission office that they are aware of the deficient grade or schedule changes. Although you must notify the campus of these changes, we cannot guarantee that a campus can go back to review an application after correspondence has been received. Make sure to save a copy of your correspondence just in case.

@Gumbymom It was “BIOL 102 Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology” and it is not UC transferable I believe. my high school offers a program to take CC classes for free at our local CC but it’s not reported on high school transcript. However, I did list that I took a class at this CC on my UC application… but they don’t know I failed it yet. Since i reported that I took this course, am I screwed?
If you are taking CC classes through a program at your HS, it is still considered Dual Enrollment. Some programs do not list the college courses on the HS transcript, that is why you need to send in the college transcript also.
Since you listed it on your application, the colleges will expect to see a grade from that course on your final transcripts. Did you list it as a non a-g course on the UC application?
I would verify if the course is non-transferable and if it is then UC’s may be more lenient about the F grade. I am not sure about the other schools you have applied. I would talk to your HS counselor and ask their opinion on the situation. You could shoot UC admissions an email and ask about a hypothetical situation if you are not ready to report it. What is in your favor, is your excellent GPA and test scores plus it is a non a-g course, so you might be to maintain your provisional admission at most of the schools, hopefully. I think by notifying them early will be an advantage. Best of luck.
I found this on my search:
BIOL 102 Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology 4 Units
Prerequisite: None.
General Education: AA/AS Area IV
Hours: 54 hours LEC ; 54 hours LAB
Description: This introductory course provides an overview of the basic anatomy and physiology of all body systems. It is designed as a non-transferable course and meets the minimum requirements for Medical Assisting, Health Information Technology, Emergency Medical Technician, Pharmacy Technology, Licensed Vocational Nursing, and other health-related technologies. It is also useful for strengthening or developing a vocabulary in human anatomy and physiology.
@Gumbymom yes that is the right course. I went back and checked and I did list it on my UC application. And I actually realized that UC doesn’t take superscore so my single sitting SAT is 1460 not as high as the 1500 I said earlier
@Gumbymom Some schools here have relationships with certain colleges where students take college classes but it’s considered enrichment because the class does not count for HS credit. It’s extra, more like a special program. Since the class was at the college, it’s not clear to me that it’s a dual enrollment class. It maybe will be more favorable if the class was taken over and above a normal HS courseload?
@pyschbiogirl good luck with it! I hope they continue to view your application favorably.
@CCtoAlaska yup, that is exactly what it is. Not dual enrollment persay. thank you, I hope so too
@CCtoAlaska: Thank you for the clarification since I was only aware of dual enrollment programs through the HS’s. Hopefully since no HS credit is given and the course is not a college transferable course, the schools will not consider it an issue. I know some schools have specific wording in the provisional admission contract that states any F Senior year even in non a-g courses (specific to UC’s and Cal States) would be the basis for a possible rescinding of the acceptance.
@pyschbiogirl, the best course of action is to find out now if this will be an issue since eventually you will have to let the schools know and the earlier you notify them the sooner you can find out some appropriate options.
Best of luck.
I don’t think it matters whether it is dual enrollment or not, the fact that a class was taken at a CCC means that it’s on your record and the UCs will want to see the course grade.
@ProfessorPlum168 would be a lot worse if it was a HS credit required for graduation though!
