Failing Algebra 2 Honors?

I’ve been doing average in the class getting B’s as my tests/quizzes with an occasional A or C.
My total average of period 1 and 2 is an 83.5 (81 first quarter, 86 second)
So I “improved” but I took the math midterm last week and I got a 77! We haven’t gotten it back but I feel terrible and I’m just doing poorly because I need to get an A which is quite impossible right now so I would be super happy if I can get an B+ or better on the final grade!

What can I do from here? We can’t drop (spaces full) but I’m determined to get an B+/A- for the last two quarters. How can I raise my final grade? I know I have to work hard but are there ways to study that will improve my grade? Any helpful links etc?

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Grade Calculations:
Quarter 1 + Quarter 2 + Quarter 3 + Quarter 4 + [(Midterm+Final)divided by 2] = Number
Number divided by 5 equals final average.

First, identifying why you’re struggling would help. Are you having problems understanding the material? Do you panic on tests? Are you not able to find the time to focus on it?

If you are struggling with the material, you could try these steps:[ul]
[li] Work through all the problems: Skipping homework questions, googling them, working with a solutions manual, or doing anything else that might mean you’re not quite doing it through will hurt you in the long run. Try working through problems slowly, writing out each step (Say, for a quadratic equation, I’d write “1. Put everything on the left hand side” and then below it do that step on the given homework problem.[/li][li] Look for other sources: I dislike reading textbooks, so I look online for more help. Some useful links: [/li]Khan Academy:/u Great videos in math / science / possibly other subjects. It’s easiest if you know what you want to review, instead of using their suggested videos.
Maths is Fun:/u I like it better than Khan Academy because videos are slow, and this website is super colorful :). Very clear, concise, and easy to follow.
Purple Math:/u Not as easy to follow, but very detailed / proof based, and on many topics.
[li] Redo test/quiz problems: The tests/quizzes that your teacher gives should give you an idea of what you’ll see later on. Try working through, step by step, previous questions to see where you mess up. Is it in the initial concept, or just a bunch of careless mistakes?[/li][li] Talk to your teacher: Maybe your teacher has had students like you before and can best advise you on what you’re doing wrong. Even if he/she can’t help, letting him/her know that you know you’re struggling and are working hard to improve can’t hurt (and sometimes they are a little easier if they know the effort you’re putting into it)[/li][/ul]

Good luck, and I hope some of this helps!

The problem I find with math is that if you understand everything throughly u get an A, but if you don’t know something her, don’t know something there, your grade drops fast.

Another link to add the ones posted above is http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/algtrig/math-algtrig.htm

It’s a site run by the school system of Oswego, NY, to prepare its students for the Regents Exam in Algebra II & Trig. (They have sites for other Regents subjects, from History to English to Sciences to Math.)

It has some great explanations, quizzes, and practice examples.
Also, be cautious about relying overly on your calculator without understanding why you’re doing what you’re doing. The calculator should supplement your understanding of the material, not replace it.

Good luck!

In addition to what everybody else suggested, try finding videos on YouTube and Paul Lamar notes http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu
I don’t know if you have a good teacher, and I know some teachers are hard to approach, but if you can, try to get help from a teacher. You can also look into tutoring, some schools have free tutoring available, if not it would probably be cheaper to get a student tutor than a professional.

Good luck!
