I'm a Sophomore and I just got back my APUS Final grade...and I got a 58%.
I'm really stressed out right now because it was my final exam and it's going on my report card. Will this totally screw me over in the future?

Yes, your grade on a random high school exam has predetermined that your future will be fruitless.

I felt the same way when my final grade in physics freshman year was a C. I thought I was never going to make it to college. In your case, yeah, a 58% is really bad, there’s no nice way to put it. I’m assuming this is your first AP class. In my school AP US History is the hardest AP. My brother work his hardest and ended up with a B, and a 3 on the AP exam. Colleges will look at that and get concerned, but colleges also like to see improvement. Prove them wrong, show colleges that you can get better, by working hard. I don’t know how much effort you put in this class, but now, you have to work EVEN harder to stay on the fast track. Overall, this ONE grade shouldn’t screw you up in the future. Just do better in your other classes. Some people might disagree with me, but you’ll be fine.

I wouldn’t post that

First of all, Fat-Nerd is being sarcastic, just in case you didn’t notice :P

In the long run, no, it will not matter. It’s one bad grade, and you can improve it throughout the year. Especially as a sophomore, you have time to show an upward trend to colleges. Now, if you’re a harvard-hopeful, maybe you should take this as a warning … maybe harvard or other ACRONYM colleges aren’t right for you.

Take it as a wake up call to work harder or drop down to an honors level course. Also, in the future, take hard classes in the ones that matter: If you’re sweating out AP math and science take an easier social studies, which won’t matter as much (unless you’re going into that field.)

Take a deep breathe. Eat some ice cream. Sign up for a tutor and ask your teacher for help.

Best of luck!

Nope, you could get straight A’s and still end up with a horrible job. Yes it is good to get good grades, but not the end of the world if you don’t. However, if you fail EVERY class…then you have a problem
