I really was hoping to be accepted by LA or SD, but now I'm starting to get extremely worried. Is my my profile just that bad comparing to other applicants? :(

Sig, youre applying for PhD's which means that you can realistically have a 3.95, awesome LOR's and great research and still get rejected. Be stoked you got accepted anywhere for a PhD!

Sig,
I cant understand being rejected for PhD's, but the rejection from UCLA MS was kind of surprising to me. Is it that hard to get into the MS program at LA?

Yea I was hit pretty hard by it too. I mean I know my profile isnt exactly stellar, but I thought it was decent enough to get me into the MS program. I talked to man graduate students as well as my professor who has been on the graduate admission committee (I think my school is within top 20), and my replies were all very positive about getting into UCLA. I was very discouraged by the reply...I was hoping to get some opinions from this forum, do you guys recommend me emailing a few professors at UCLA in my concentration to ask about what happened? Thanks guys, I was really appreciate it

I dont think you would gain anything by mailing professors, but I do find it really odd. I think it is just bad luck. UCLA generally shouldn't be rejecting 3.53s from top 20s for MS.

UCLA application actually only asked for last 2 year GPA, and the site says average admittance is 3.6 to 4.0. Whatever the case is, it seems like I just have no luck with UCLA =

i got into ucla, but only for the CS master's program. having got rejected from columbia's and duke's phd programs, i'm thinking i did the right thing by only applying to ucla's master's program.
